by Rai Micht

A tooth abscess is an accumulation of infected material (pus) springing from a bacterial infection in the center of a tooth.

It can be particularly simple how a tooth abscess develops. Once the dental pulp (the living tissue in the center of the tooth consisting of nerves and blood vessels) gets infected with bacteria. There are many ways how bacteria can get into the pulp:

1. Tooth decay. A tooth abscess develops when decay in a tooth has not received appropriate dental care and it erodes the enamel and dentin until it finally reaches to the dental pulp. The acids released by the bacteria start to irritate the dental pulp tissue which becomes inflamed. The inflammation begins to constrict the blood flow to the pulp area, causing toothache. The dental pulp becomes infected and eventually dies. As the bacteria grow and multiply they are forced beyond the end of the tooth and they form an abscess around the root tip. The jaw bone gets infected too leading to the breakdown of the tooth’s supportive tissues.

2. Cracked tooth or trauma. How a tooth abscess develops through trauma can be a question. Tooth trauma such as a a broken or chipped tooth can lead to a tooth abscess. Cracks and fractures on the enamel and dentin could permit bacteria in the pulp, bringing on tooth infection. From the root of the tooth, the infection could affect the bones supporting the tooth.

3. Unrepaired restorations. Just like trauma, weakened dental restorations (e.g., fillings) may break down over time and allow bacteria to access the pulp, potentially causing a tooth infection and abscess.

4. Periodontal gum disease. This can account to the gums pulling away from the teeth, building deep pockets between the teeth and gums. Bacteria could grow and an abscess may develop when food particle become stuck in these pockets.

5. Accumulation of pus (dead tissue, live and dead bacteria, white blood cells) creates inflammation and soreness of the tissues within the tooth. This brings about an awful toothache. Unless an abscess develops, the toothache may stop when the root of the tooth dies. This is basically how a tooth abscess develops, particularly when the infection continues to be active and spreads to the tissues.

Having severe toothache is the main symptom. It can be a continuous pain and often described as gnawing, sharp, shooting, or throbbing.

Other symptoms may include: bitter taste in the mouth, breath odor, general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity of the teeth to hot or cold, swollen glands of the neck, swollen area of the upper or lower jaw — a very serious symptom. Know how a tooth abscess develops to be able to avoid them. Aside from proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, prompt treatment of dental caries reduces the risk of tooth abscess.

The fight against gum disease and halitosis is not as easy as it seems, as there are various factors that trigger the said conditions. The main culprit for the manifestation of these dental conditions is the sugar in foods and drinks. Dental bacteria feeds on the sugar and food debris left in the mouth, causing plaque and tartar. This is why it’s advised to avoid eating foods rich in sugar.

Fortunately, for people who have sweet cravings, there’s good news. Even though raisins are sweet and sticky, researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago have discovered them to contain compounds which prevent gum disease and halitosis.

Raisins contain a number of constituents in raisins which take care of plaque-causing bacteria in the mouth. Some, namely oleanolic acid can be effective at killing oral bacteria. Others like oleanolic acid, oleanolic aldehyde, and 5-(hydroxy methyl)-2-furfural could reduce the capability of bacteria to grow. Specifically, they are effective against Streptococcus mutans, and Porphyromonas gingivalis.

Oleanolic acid also help in preventing the bacteria Streptococcus mutans from adhering to the surface of the tooth. Bacteria needs to stick to the teeth to form plaque, where they begin to erode the tooth enamel. Sucrose, unlike the fructose and glucose in which raisins contain, are what constitutes the environment for gum disease and halitosis.

Another options, cranberries, also prevent bacteria (specifically Streptococcus mutans) from adhering to teeth, and developing gum disease and halitosis. Presently, there are many dental products and toothpastes that contain cranberry extract. Additionally, the British Dental Health Foundation is endorsing cranberry extracts and juice to avoid gum disease and halitosis, as well as other associated problems. However, due to the cranberry juice’s acidity, it is advisable to take it during mealtimes. Acidic food and drinks briefly soften the teeth enamel.

Symptoms of gum disease include red and swollen gums that bleed easily, tooth sensitivity, spaces developing between teeth, pus between teeth, chronic halitosis, pain in the mouth, and changes to the bite of teeth. Plaque is the main cause of gum disease and halitosis, though other factors can speed up the process of gum degradation. These include smoking, a genetic predisposition, pregnancy, puberty, stress, poor diet, medications like anti-depressants, and oral contraceptives, grinding teeth at night, diabetes, and some other systemic diseases.

Having a good dental hygiene can be the best prevention against gum disease and halitosis. With routine brushing, flossing and use of mouthwash, you can keep oral bacteria under control as well as eradicate the threats of gum disease and halitosis from its true cause.

Experiencing swollen or bleeding gums upon brushing your teeth can be a fairly common event. This gum problem which causes inflammation is called gingivitis. For every household, at least one member is afflicted with this disease. When left without treatment, it can intensify and develop into a more serious gum disease such as periodontitis. Inflammation and infection of the gums is the manifestation of gingivitis

Plaque is the sticky film composed of bacteria. Bacteria mainly feeds on the sugar and starch from the foods and drinks consumed, which results to plaque. In spite of being easily removed, they can accumulate within 24 hours. Once they are not removed, they harden under the gum line, forming tartar. Among the many causes of tooth loss is not maintaining simple oral hygiene. When appropriate care is taken, you can avoid plaque deposits which are the long term effects of gingivitis.

Gingivitis, including signs of an abscess tooth, is among the leading causes for tooth loss. Plaque and tartar can aggravate your gums and cause gingivitis. Bacteria and bacterial toxins can inflict heavy damage, accounting to swollen and tender gums (which trigger bleeding gums).

Gingivitis can have several stages varying from mild, moderate and severe. Everyone is at risk of this dental condition. It is considered to develop from the time of puberty or upon an increase in hormones such as during early period of adulthood. Dental health mainly depends on how well you take care of your teeth and gums.

Diabetes heightens your risk of having gingivitis. Suffering from dry mouth also adds to the risk. Weak immunity could also cause problems to arise. To stop a serious condition to begin, necessary dental hygiene can help you in the long run.

Frequent gingivitis signs and symptoms include : developing mouth sores, puffy gums, bleeding gums during brushing, tender/soft gums, gum discoloration, signs of an abscess tooth, as well as halitosis.

To avoid signs of an abscess tooth and other symptoms of gingivitis, here are some home remedies you can try:

1. Apply a mixture of baking soda with little water using your finger. Once completed, brush your teeth to take away the bacterial waste for shining effect.

2. Mix 3% solution of Hydrogen peroxide with equal amounts of water. Swish, do not swallow, this solution in your mouth for 30 seconds. This helps to kill the bacteria.

3. You can brush your gums and teeth with Aloe Vera gel for better effects. It helps in reduction of plaque formation as well as works as a healing agent.

Prior to using the remedies, ask your dentist to prevent unwanted side effects or allergies. Conversing with your dentist regarding signs of an abscess tooth, sore gums, receding gums and additional gingivitis symptoms is the ultimate defense for preventing the condition from advancing.

by Jarod Johnson

How you manage your personal health through the year is very important to maintaining your health. Gum disease and many health risks can be fought when you include daily brushing and flossing habits.

The disease of the mouth, the gums and jaw bone structures specifically, is known as periodontal disease ” pronounced simply as: per-ee-oh-don-tal disease. Technically Gingivitis and periodontitis are the components of gum disease. The warning signs of gum disease are clear: gums which easily bleed and are red or swollen.

Gum disease is caused by a buildup of that nasty element which clogs arteries: plaque. Oral plaque contains germs which give off toxins which damage your gums and jaw bones.

You have gum disease when you exhibit some of these signals:

Bad Breath which does not go away

When you Bite you notice that Your Teeth do not fit like the used to

Swollen Red Gums

Easy to Bleed Gums

You have a Continual Bad Taste In Your Mouth

A change in the way your teeth fit together when biting

Your Teeth May Feel Loose or May Separate between Each Other

You may not show any of these signs and still have gum disease. Because gum disease is normally painless, you may not know it. Your body systems can be affected by gum disease. Your heart and lungs are suitable from the impact of gum disease. Women who are pregnant, and anyone with diabetes should be careful of potential risks from gum disease.

As you read earlier plaque is the primary causal agent of gum disease. However, there are other causes to gum disease:

Prescribed Drugs

Sicknesses

Smoking

Illness

Family Health

Shifts in Hormone Levels

A regular trip to your dentist is your ticket to health, and no gum disease. When you do visit your dentist, gum disease and general oral diseases can be easily managed when found early. Gum disease exams include gum measurements and radiographs, and sometimes x-rays. Usually a dentist or hygienist will use a small probe to measure the gap between a tooth and the gum as part of your gum disease examination.

Gum disease treatments are usually performed now days with a Diode Laser which easily kills the bacteria causing the gum disease and eliminates the diseased tissue.

Tooth brushing and flossing are the major tools in preventing gum disease. Used on a daily basis they help to reduce your gum disease risk and will manage your oral health.

Cleaning products which include interproximal brushes ” these are the tiny toothbrushes used to clean between teeth, tongue scrapers, and rubber tip stimulator all can work to manage or reduce your gum disease.

Gum disease is destructive and affects not only your gums and oral tissues, but also affects your entire body.

Gum disease can be reversed by having your dentist and hygienist regularly clean your teeth along with you maintaining a routine floss and brush schedule. The risk of gum disease or the level of magnitude can be reduced measurably by simple life changes:

Do Not Grind or Clench Your Teeth

Prescription medications

Exercise to Reduce Stresses

Exercise Regularly

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently published a link between health issues and gum disease. They said that the bacteria in gum disease can lead to more health issues, serious health problems like heart disease and stroke, in addition to diabetes.

Anaerobic bacteria thrives in plaque, causing your gums to inflame, bleed, and disjointed from your teeth. Bad breath can also be present during gingivitis or gum disease. In more grave cases, gums turn out sore, teeth hurt, gums regress, and teeth loosen. To prevent the inflammation and gum regression, apply these natural remedy to eliminate some of the bacteria and fortify the gums in the mouth.

- 2 parts white oak bark herb – powder

- 1 part myrrh gum herb – powder or granules

- 3/4 part Peppermint leaves made into powder

- ” part herb of anise – powder or seeds

- 1/8 part cloves – powder

If herbs and leaves are not in powder form, grind them in a coffee grinder. Use this formula to make as much powder as you want.

Put the mixture in a small container. You can use a tablespoon as a measuring tool. For instance, 2 tablespoons of white oak, 1 tablespoon of myrrh gum, tablespoon of peppermint leaves, and so on. Measurements don’t have to be accurate.

How to use it:

Use this powder once a week to regulate your dental bacteria. In case of gingivitis or gum disease, you may use this thrice a day. Apply some powder on your toothbrush before brushing your teeth and gums. Spit out the excess powder after brushing. You can keep the active herbs by not washing your mouth. Ingesting any of the powder is totally safe.

The powder combination can be acrid, nevertheless it is potent and efficient. Putting in more peppermint powder may make it less acrid, if you prefer.

For worse cases of gingivitis or gum disease, make a paste with the powder and distilled water, then apply along the front and back areas of the teeth and gums. Let the paste stay in the mouth for as long as you can. Don’t be concerned about getting herbs in between teeth. It is effective. Several people have used this mixture for a month with good results and didn’t need dental gingivitis or gum disease treatment. As for severe gingivitis or gum disease, using this remedy along with dental consultation works the best.

Genes may play a role in the development of tooth decay, yet other factors come into strong play: proper maintenance and diet. Most people pay very little attention to proper dental hygiene or use absurd chemical substances such as toothpaste containing the poisonous fluoride in a quest to avoid or perhaps repair tooth decay, or the causes of an abscessed tooth. Nothing more is required to clean the teeth than a firm toothbrush and a little un-iodized sea-salt. Moreover, daily consumption of leafy veggies is essential as a natural step to curtailing tooth decay, along with the causes of an abscessed tooth.

Tooth Decay Or Cavities: Causes Of An Abscessed Tooth

The constant acidity in the mouth mainly causes cavities or tooth decay, and this is from consuming acid-producing foods. Consuming these foods result to acidic blood, which restrains the body of needed calcium necessary to cancel the acids. Foods that contain too much potassium and phosphorus contents should be eaten in moderation, and it should me balanced with calcium to prevent the body from being robbed of its own calcium, contributing to the causes of an abscessed tooth and tooth decay. Another culprit would be honey, as well as refined sugar.

No one is saying to not eat nuts and seeds or less harming grains like rice, millet, quinoa or amaranth but be sure to offset them with green leafy vegetables and of course reduce consuming them. By the way, for a way better source of proteins: instead of excessive nuts opt for avocadoes, green coconuts, dates and olives. Secondly for carbohydrates: sweet fruits and root vegetables.

Illustrated below will be a recommended method of cleaning the teeth.

1. Start with rinsing the mouth with a little saline water upon waking up.

2. Then brush the teeth first with an up-and-down rotational motion, cleaning the upper incisors, canines, molars and premolars. (Make sure to brush the ventral regions)

3. Do the same procedures in two on the lower teeth. Again, rinse the mouth with saline water.

4. Now massage each tooth with your clean index finger, ensuring that you reach the wisdom teeth in the corners. Rinse the mouth again.

5. Massage the gums with the fingers in a mild sideways motion. This is essential as it strengthens the gums and squeezes out the impure matters from its pores. Rinse The mouth

6. Now gently rub the upper palate of the mouth until top of the tonsils. Rinse the mouth.

Also, keep in mind that nothing can cause an abscessed tooth as fast as nuts, seeds and grains in excess. This goes to show that a diet comprised of mainly fruits, leafy and root vegetables, will be the best choice to avoiding the causes of an abscessed tooth along with the steps above.

Don’t permit yourself to be exploited by the many marketers and charlatans out to make a fast buck on the expense of the vulnerable, to gain a healthy and beautiful smile (and perfect health) first make the suggested change above to a healthier diet and apply the steps given above for lasting success.
