South America will host the Summer Olympic Games for the first time in 2016, as Rio De Janeiro, Brazil was awarded the honor on Friday. Rio beat out the US choice of Chicago, Illinois along with Tokyo, Japan and Madrid, Spain to earn the right to host the games. Despite a high pressure effort from the American power elite–including President Barack Obama and TV gabfest queen Oprah Winfrey–Chicago was the first city eliminated from contention. Tokyo was the next to go, before Rio got the nod over Madrid in the final round of balloting.

Bookmakers offered odds on the host city choice, with Rio listed as second favorite at +200. Chicago had been the wagering favorite at most books, particularly after President Obama got involved personally in the US bid effort. Chicago was bet as high as a -300 favorite, while Madrid and Tokyo were priced in the +250 range. Some suggest that Tokyo didnt deserve to have such short odds, but was the beneficiary of regional pride from the notoriously enthusiastic betting population of Japan.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, got the better of his US counterpart Barack Obama The Brazilian leader stressed the unfairness that South America had never hosted the games in his speech to the committee;

“It is a time to address this imbalance. It is time to light the Olympic cauldron in a tropical country.”

The Olympic committee was apparently swayed by this presentation and paid no mind to Rios many downsides. It is without a doubt the most dangerous of the finalist cities, where drug cartels and armed bands of thugs roam without impunity. Well do to Rio citizens are used to removing watches and jewelry before they drive anywhere lest they be targeted by carjacking brigands. Rios murder rate is also one of the highest in the world. Brazilian bid officials have stressed that security will be a priority at the games and it better be lest the Olympics turn into a bloodbath.

Some IOC members suggested that the summary dismissal of Chicagos bid was more of a rebuke of the notoriously corrupt USOC. The last two Olympics held in the US were tainted by crime and corruption. The’96 Atlanta Olympics were disrupted by a terrorist bombing, while the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games were marred by a well known bribery and corruption scandal.

The Federal ban on sports betting has been blasted by anyone who knows anything about the subject for a number of different reasons. Though the US professional leagues suggest that sports betting threatens the integrity of their games, the opposite is the case. The professional bookmaking industry is usually where any type of compromised or fixed game is discovered. Ultimately, the best case for legal sports betting is Constitutional.

Unfortunately, the Congress of the United States has shown very little respect for the Constitution in recent years. Were it to abide strictly by the role outlined for it by the founding fathers, the Legislative Branch of our government would have to relinquish any number of its powers in a variety of areas. The primary problem with our Congress is that it has increasingly become a collection of career politicians rather than a body representative of its constituency. As a result, the overriding concern of the average Senator or Congressman is increasing the power that he is able to wield, and as a result the power that his body is able to bring to bear.

The Federal prohibition of sports wagering which was enacted a few years back is of very dubious Constitutionality. Were it not for the grandfather clause, which allowed it to remain legal in jurisdictions in which it already existed, it would have certainly been struck down as unconstitutional on a number of different fronts. Ironically, the gambling industry supported this bill in the pre-Internet era.

The mere fact that a proposed law or initiative is unconstitutional offers no protection for the citizenry. If a politician can suggest that a law is for ‘the children’ many will swallow the bait hook line and sinker. In many cases such prohibitive legislation contradicts one of the most important concepts in the Constitution–that of the right to sovereignty and self-determination of the individual states:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Under the 10th Amendment, unless the power in question has been expressly given to the Federal government by the Constitution, and/or unless it has expressly been prohibited to the states to govern as it sees fit. If an individual state chooses not to regulate a certain activity, it is the right of each individual citizen to make their own decision.

So, you should be asking yourself at this point, where exactly does the Constitution delegate to the Federal government the right to make policy on sports gambling? The answer is that it doesnt, and it is very questionable that they have the Constitutional authority to do so. The sanctimonious blowhards who oppose sports betting would like to think they know best, but fortunately for all freedom loving Americans the founding fathers would beg to differ.

Sports gambling may seem a minimally important issue to some, but the erosion of liberty is an incremental danger. The danger to broader concepts of personal liberty may seem a million miles away, but with each additional law intended to protect us from this or that the Federal government becomes larger and more powerful and the rights of the sovereign states”and the individuals that comprise them”are shrinking and being weakened.

by Wade Henderson

Getting a Business loan at your bank is a terribly difficult task these days regardless if you are in Canada or the United States. Because of this many businesses feel they need to seek the operating cash they need from Angel Investors. But are you ready to turn your business over to an Angel Investor?

Angel Investors look at deals differently than banks, or most other lenders for that matter. Their focus is to net between 5 and 10 times their initial investment in a period not to exceed 5 years. They do this by carefully plotting their exit strategy to recover their funds within the specific time period they define which can take the form of public offerings of stock, takeover or liquidating the assets of the company. What ever it takes.

Due to the current market conditions in our economy Angel Investors are looking for higher than a 10 times ROI. This is because of all the business failures versus the successful ones. When you consider the failure rate in the Angel Investor portfolio, the effective ROI for a successful Angel Investor is about 20% to 30%.

Since the ROI for and Angel Investment is so high but the lower costing financing at the credit union and banks are not available, especially for business start-ups it makes being in business even more difficult. The reason the banks and credit unions are not interested in financing start-ups is because they lack the history and asset backing required by their underwriting guidelines.

So you are declined at the bank and you can not afford Angel Investors now what?

It is irrelevant if you are in Canada or the United States, the story is the same but there are options. This is a real life deal that I just completed recently. It is a Distribution company in Alberta Canada that had a unique product that it wanted to market throughout North America. The owner went to the usual banking institutions and was denied the loan. He then spoke to a few Angel Investors who gave him proposals which he did ponder over but shortly after continued to search for options. When I spoke with him I suggested a combination Accounts Receivable Factoring and Purchase Order Finance facility.

At the time when we had initially spoken, he had just shipped out nearly 70% of his stock and had an order to fill the following week that would exhaust his inventory. At this point he would have to wait until the customers paid for the orders prior to ordering more inventory. Biggest problem with that is that he had other orders to fill, but no stock and no money to get more stock.

Within a week of his initial application the company was funded and he now had the operational funds needed to operate his business smoothly.

In short, if your company has been turned down by the banks and credit unions plus there is no comfort for you in dealing with an Angel Investor due to their terms, be sure to check with a Professional Commercial Finance Broker so they can put together the proper financing for your business.

by Rich Bordner

“We should celebrate all things spiritual! Afterall, all religions basically teach the same thing: respect and love for one’s neighbor and doing good to human kind.”

This is a very, very common way of thinking. People of all stripes and occupations hold to it.

Before we throw our lot in with the pluralist crowd, though, we should pause and think. Is it really true that all religions are fundamentally the same?

If you actually study the main tenets of the world’s major faiths, you’ll find out that they are quite different.

Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all hold to a personal God that is separate from His creation. In many forms of Hinduism, God is impersonal and one with the cosmos. In Buddhism, the existence of God is irrelevant. Christians believe Jesus was and is the Messiah, God-in-the-flesh, whereas Jews hold that to be abhorrent. Muslims believe Jesus was just a prophet, but recoil at the notion of Him being God. All these beliefs are central to each religion. If you examine them further, you’ll find they also radically differ on their diagnosis of humanity’s problem (sin vs. lack of knowledge, for example) and the solution to that problem (repent and embrace Jesus as Savior vs. attain nirvana). Even each religion’s concepts of what happens after death are radically different (heaven/hell, reincarnation, nothing).

If you reflect further, you’ll see that these can’t all be true! God is either personal or impersonal. He either exists or He doesn’t. In no case can God be both personal and impersonal, real and fake. Jesus either is the Messiah or He is not. In no case can He be both the Messiah and not the Messiah. When you die, you either are reincarnated, go to heaven, rot in the ground, or hitch a ride on a comet…but you can’t do it all!

Some might object by saying “what’s true for you might not be true for me.” Jesus rose from the dead “for me,” but not for you. What does that even mean? Again, we are not talking about ice cream. With ice cream, preference reigns; personal tastes are subjective. But the resurrection of Christ is a claim not about preference, but about history, and therefore it is either true or false, not true “for me” or false “for you.” Denying this makes about as much sense as saying, “Lincoln was shot for me, but not for you.”

I have heard the rejoinder that “this either/or way of thinking is just a western logical system. In the east, people are perfectly comfortable embracing contradictory views.” In the east, the argument goes, a both/and system of thinking is popular, over against the western either/or way. Therefore, they reject the belief that God can’t be both personal and impersonal.

Don’t fall for this! Even in Tibet, they run when they see a charging bull; they understand that it’s either them or the bull, not both. It might look like the “both/and” system reigns supreme, but at bottom, reality is still fundamentally either/or when it comes to contradictory beliefs. Notice that the easterners who harp on the “both/and” choose that way of thinking *instead of* the either/or.

Be skeptical of the grand claims of pluralism. Sure, Gatorade and anti-freeze might both be green liquids, but it’s the differences that matter when choosing which to drink!

by Ferdinand Emy

We have learned various subjects in school such as history, geography, mathematics, etc. All these subjects have been useful in bolstering our life in some ways. They gave us knowledge of different things that came handy when we needed that data. But have these subjects thought us how to have great relationships with persons? Have they thought us how to feel good from within and be happy? Have they thought us how to be successful in our personal and professional lives?

The answer is no, and that is where Neuro Linguistic Programing comes in! What is NLP and how may we utilise it to make our lives excellent? NLP is a set of techniques and skills that help us utilize our brain, our thought process and our body in a way that’s more effective while interacting or communicating with others.

Neuro linguistic programing can help you transform the way you think, feel and behave-in short it’ll teach you how to look at things differently and come out as a winner even in worst case situations. It similarly enables you to do things in a better way to attain success, to gain certain skills and attitudes needed to do things you cannot do right now, communicate effectively with people around you, manage your thoughts, feelings, words and behavior more effectively and much more.

If you can be able to attain all the above mentioned techniques or even a good number of of them, then you are sure to be in the path of personal achievement. Neuro linguistic programing is a continuous learning procedure. It isn’t acquired in a day or 2 just by reading articles as regards it or attending NLP seminars and lectures. NLP can only be effective if you implement it by interacting with others and gaining feedback.

You may or may not be positive instantly but you need to keep trying and improvising till you get the needed upshots. Failure does not mean that the techniques aren’t effective. But they’re only feedback that allows you to improve. If there are no failures, you’ll never improve!

Neuro linguistic programing is optionally described as the study of success or the science of personal attainment; and correctly so, as this study of the brain is based on the factors which clarifies the success or failure of human performance.

The NLP modeling has evolved over the years by learning the thinking styles and behaviors of efficacious people in diverse fields. Thence these techniques will surely help you program your mind like a efficacious person!

Biodiesel is effectively a fatty ester based fuel, and it is generally manufactured from vegetable oils such as canola, hemp or soybean amongst others. It may also be created from animal fats in a special simple process and the history of biodiesel tells us that this renewable source of energy which is as efficient as petroleum diesel has been around for a great deal longer than oil commodity brokers care for us to know.

Rudolph Diesel who designed diesel driven motors was the first to make use of renewable energy from plant sources. He used peanut oil to manufacture a product which would drive his engines. He also understood the importance of not becoming dependent on fossil fuels and wanted to prove that renewable sources were better.

In actual fact biodiesel was used in diesel engines until the 1920′s it was only then that manufacturers decided to make use of petroleum fuel. Both methanol and ethanol are able to be produced from these fatty acids. Even Henry Ford believed in the concept propounded by Rudolph Diesel and he build a factory which was equipped to mass produce biofuels. He believed that this was the oil of the future and wanted to manufacture all his automobiles to run on this fuel.

When he commenced with this, he was in the top of his market and embarked on partnerships with natural oil companies. However in the 1940′s petroleum based companies started advertising and as petroleum fuel was cheaper at the time, this fossil based fuel soon became the number one best seller.

Initially biofuels were produced using soybean or other oils, in the meantime hemp had been grown in the US for a long time for many purposes (not to smoke) These other oils could not produce great quantities of biofuel, however it was discovered that oil could be manufactured from hemp which could make large quantities of fuel. Henry Ford wanted to use this discovery and recommence making biofuel from hemp oil.

In the same breath, many oil wells had been found in the US and people were getting extremely rich from selling this oil to manufacture petroleum. They were not prepared to give Henry Ford a market share with his products and started a campaign against the hemp oil product, calling it Marijuana.

The Act prevented anyone from the possession of Hemp (Marijuana) without an appropriate license and the Government would not issue these licenses. This Act effectively stamped out the production of biofuel, as the man in the street was afraid they would be breaking the law if they were in possession of it. This in brief is the history of Biodiesel.

Any theory that comes to in this world has had to face its share of criticisms. It occurred with Archimedes and Newton when their physical theories came first to presence. But over a period of time, individuals accepted these theories with both their hands. The same kind of response had been given to neuro linguistic programming, and while the technique in itself is not so bad, neuro linguistic programming has generated quite a good number of bad press for some years now.

One of the first claims of NLP to be disputed was that it is a scientifically respectable method. This claim of neuro linguistic programming did not have any scientific backing at all. It does have a rather impressive bibliography with terms like neurological levels, accessing cues, but that in no way means it may compete with legitimate disciplines like neurolinguistics or neuroscience.

NLP claims a lot, and while it claims, the lack of scientific proof to back these claims makes persons look down on this technique suspiciously. NLP, as the technique expound, has laid the foundation for a lot of practices that could have absolutely revolutionized the field of cognitive science and neuropsychology. Well, one thing is for sure ” Successive journals and periodicals published in these domains have failed to even mention the credits of neuro linguistic programming.

At the end of the day, you would believe in the credibility of any scientific theory when it is backed up with necessary proof or research. In the absence of both, neuro linguistic programming suffers from an identity crisis. Though, a lot of practitioners still go about their business of practicing this technique, one may somewhat say that any activity related to this domain is unregulated, at optimal.

NLP is commonly believed to be a technique that assists a lot in management training, life coaching and understanding behavioral patterns of human beings. Since these concepts are closely related to the corporate sector, you would still find a lot of demand for neuro linguistic programming amongst corporate companies. That being said, the fact still stays that By and large, neuro linguistic programming is still an unproven science for many. There are many questions yet unanswered about this science, and while waiting for the time they’re answered, the masses would find it problematic to adapt to this science.

The problem though is ” the interpretation of this science is too easy for anyone to even think of challenging or proving the science. People just get down to implementing the techniques, which may not be the correct way ahead.
