Do You Need To Know How Does Solar Power Work?
With the increased focus on alternative energy, like solar power, many people are beginning to wonder just how does solar power work?
Some of the queries people have are whether or not this is something they can include in their own lives and if it will effectively work to meet their demands. Although the sun has been put to work for us for many centuries, it is only recently that we have begun to fully understand and use its power. Therefore the answer is yes.
But what are the ways we can really use solar power? Solar panels are generally used to convert light into electricity. Many people have used this technology before and never realized it with solar powered calculators. In what way does this solar power really work?
You can set up solar panels to catch light, and they convert it into energy. To power a hundred watt light bulb you will need a square meter of panels. It doesn’t sound like much to begin with, but how many meters of unused space do you have on your roof right now? Solar panels enable you to get free power from the sun using a system that does not utilized any usable space.
Also available are solar water heaters. This system of solar power heats up water using the sun’s power. Hot water is achieved by pumping water through pipes that are painted a dark color. When the pipes capture the heat from the sun, the water inside warms up also. Some companies have water heaters that they say can even provide around 90% of a home’s hot water.
The only drawback is that the pipes have to be drained in the winter to keep them from freezing, but some companies have built in systems that make this easier to do.
Solar furnaces are another type of solar power. A solar furnace is a collection of mirrors that focus sunlight. How does this type of solar power work?
Focusing the sun’s rays enables you to achieve extremely hot temperatures. Scientists have used this kind of heating to achieve temperatures in excess of 5400 degrees Fahrenheit. If your not in a hurry this can of heating can be fantastic as their is not cost involved. But you have to remember is does take quite a while to heat thing this way.
